The astronaut Edgar Mitchell, who was forever changed by his mission to space, had a profound perspective shift that transformed his life forever. Talking of his return trip home to earth, he stated that he saw our planet in a different light:
“I suddenly experienced the universe as intelligent, loving, harmonious.”
With the continuing unfolding of abhorrent events in Ukraine - and in other places around the world - it’s more of a challenge to embrace Mitchell’s optimistic sentiment, particularly as we witness the vastly unintelligent, unloving, and disharmonious actions of a despotic few...
And yet…
…the perspective of the ‘big picture effect’ remains. And it’s a perspective we desperately need to hold onto right now as we witness, or even experience first-hand, the pain and suffering that war - and the shadow of control and desire for power – brings.
Human led chaos and discord can be deafening and debilitating. It can lead to overwhelm, powerlessness and fear. So, we must actively seek ways to bring ourselves into balance. Desiring to come to a more peaceful place within isn’t to deny that we might be feeling anger and pain. Or pretending that we are not feeling the impulse to blame and condemn. These are sometimes appropriate and genuine human responses to what we see happening in the world. But we must also take responsibility for our personal wellbeing, and perhaps even what we ourselves are unwittingly contributing to the collective human field.
How can we do this? Maybe we can start by focusing on the loving, intelligent and harmonious spirit within ourselves. Or within our loved ones, or by spending time in the places that bring us peace. And when we are in resonance with that, it will become easier to sense it in the people we encounter, or the way we interact with the wider world. Where and how we choose to place our focus is everything.
We can’t all blast off into space for an actual life-changing ‘big picture’ view of earth, as Mitchell did. However, we can imagine ourselves there - floating above our beautiful planet, observing that from this higher perspective, from this tranquil space, there is room for us to breathe, to take a break from the dramas and conflicts that clamour for our attention.
“There’s a saying that (…) I’ve always liked: “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.” We all have to be a part of this. We have to be the initiator. We can’t wait.” Edgar Mitchell.

From the heart and hand of a child…this drawing was created by my youngest many months ago. Feeling deeply touched by its simple message, we placed it in our kitchen. Passing it every day, we have been reminded to rest in the energy of peaceful expectation and trust that all will be well - that all IS well. When the outside world seems to be spiralling into greater chaos and polarised states - with judgement, conflict, war and corruption running rampant - it becomes ever more important to seek and radiate inner peace, compassion and hopefulness. This can support our emotional and mental wellbeing but also contribute to planetary harmony too. Let’s try to see the world through the eyes and heart of a child and remember that the simplest, heart centred view can often be the most potent force for good.

For more information about Past Life Memories:
A belief in past lives would assume a belief in reincarnation. It has been suggested that almost half of the world’s population holds the belief that we have had many lives and/or forms on Earth. If this is of interest to you, the work of Dr Ian Stevenson (1918-2007) – a noted Psychiatrist working for the University of Virginia School of Medicine - is often cited as providing the most rigorous and comprehensive evidence suggesting that memories and physical injuries are transferred from one lifetime to another lifetime. Over a period of 40 years he investigated 3,000 children around the world who recalled having previous lives. Some of the most interesting aspects of this work were the recording of birthmarks and birth defects on some of the children’s bodies which accurately corresponded to wounds on the deceased persons they stated that they had lived as before. This was verified in some cases when the medical report for the deceased person – usually a post-mortem report - was obtained. It confirmed the exact correspondence between wounds and birthmarks. |
For more information about Spiritual Regression Therapy, Near Death Experiences and Past Life Therapy:
Within the therapeutic field of working with Past Lives memory, much of the published, well known work has come via medically trained or scientifically minded professional Psychiatrists and Psychologists. Many were self-confessed atheists or agnostics, which makes their research about the transformational quality of past life therapy all the more compelling. Through publishing their case work they revealed that many of their patients had spent years in clinical therapy, with little or no impact or change through more conventional channels. And yet, through the use of hypnosis – and by effectively stumbling across their patient’s spontaneous recollection of what they experienced as past lives – incredible and significant improvements and changes were established within a rapid time frame. For more detailed information on the subjects of past life regression therapy and regression therapy see: Andy Tomlinson, Brian Weiss, Roger Woolger, Dr Raymond Moody, Hazel Denning, Winafred B Lucas, Dr Pim Van Lommel, Ian Lawton.
